Axis 3 – Positioning of Tools within Decision-Support Strategies
Presentation
Axis 3 of the UMR-I 02 SEBIO aims to establish a two-way dialogue between the tools developed through research and the needs of regulatory frameworks. The underlying objective is to anticipate regulatory developments and, whenever possible, contribute to shaping them. To this end, the axis is structured around two complementary dimensions: (i) identifying the conditions under which the tools developed can reach a sufficient level of operational readiness for use in Environmental Risk Assessment (ERA), and (ii) defining desirable evolutions of existing regulatory frameworks to facilitate their integration.
This axis is set within a rapidly evolving European context, characterized by a strong commitment to reducing, and ultimately replacing, animal testing in regulatory processes.
A key challenge for fostering effective dialogue lies in clarifying and harmonizing concepts, particularly those related to New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), whose definitions and scope remain heterogeneous. In this regard, the development of a shared glossary or thesaurus appears essential to facilitate exchanges across disciplines and promote a better mutual understanding of scientific and regulatory approaches.
The axis is coordinated by Rémy Beaudouin.
