The aim of this work is to acquire knowledge for environmental biomonitoring analyses using fish immunomarkers as predictive effect markers at higher levels of biological organization. Immunomarkers are a valuable complement to conventional methods used in environmental biomonitoring, as they reflect potential effects on individuals, enabling earlier and more informative assessments of contamination impacts on organisms. The current challenge is therefore to improve our understanding of the mechanisms involved in interactions between environmental stressors and immune responses.

Prior to any field study, it is essential to understand the natural variability range of our biological markers in order to avoid diagnostic errors when assessing the health status of species in their environment. Ongoing projects thus focus on studying the fluctuations of immunomarkers in relation to seasonal parameters, with the goal of defining baseline values for these markers. In order to better understand the adaptability limits of organisms to chemical stress, these studies aim to define threshold values beyond which a physical, chemical, or biological phenomenon will cause an irreversible effect.
