On 25 February, SEBIO led a conference organised by the association ‘Les Mouettes Solidaires’ to raise awareness of the problem of microplastics among the general public in Le Havre. Micro- and nano-plastics, which result from the degradation of waste or industrial processes, are polluting the world's waters. Although invisible, they are ubiquitous and disrupt aquatic ecosystems by accumulating in the food chain, thereby threatening biodiversity. This pollution transcends geographical boundaries and affects not only marine fauna, but also human health. In the face of this global threat, reducing their presence and protecting our waters has become an urgent priority. The conference provided an opportunity for Céleste Mouth, a doctoral student at the laboratory, to present her thesis work, which aims to improve our understanding of the effects of these contaminants on the aquatic environment, particularly on zooplankton.
